ST. CROIX — A 30-year-old man from St. Croix turned himself in to authorities on June 25 on charges of cyber harassment and contempt of court.
The individual, identified as Raheem Wyre, surrendered at the Wilbur H. Francis Command Police Station and was charged with harassment by telephone, cyber-stalking and cyber-harassment, and contempt of court. His arrest was a result of a five-month investigation by the Economic Crimes Unit that began in February 2023.
The investigation revealed that Wyre persistently harassed the victim by contacting her place of employment at Silver Airways, even after a Civil Protection Order was filed against him with the Superior Court. In spite of the order, he continued to verbally threaten the victim's life and used multiple fake pages for harassment.
An arrest warrant was issued for Wyre on June 2. Numerous attempts to locate him yielded no results, leading to the placement of an All Points Bulletin. On his arrest, he was advised of his Miranda Rights, which he refused to sign, invoking his Fifth Amendment Rights. Unable to post bail set at $1,000, Wyre was remanded to the John A. Bell Adult Correctional Facility pending his Advice of Right's Hearing.
This is not the first time Wyre has been involved with the law. He was arrested in August 2022 for damaging the victim's vehicle at her workplace. According to police, Wyre, who was drunk at the time, had been spotted near the victim's car at the Henry E. Rohlsen Airport parking lot. He was later seen throwing a stone and a bottle at the vehicle's windshield, causing considerable damage.
Additionally, Wyre continuously harassed the victim over the phone. His behavior, along with evidence from surveillance footage, led to his arrest. Despite initially evading the police, he was apprehended and charged with destruction of property and disturbance of the peace by threats, both categorized as crimes of domestic violence.
Before his latest arrest, Wyre had been placed under house arrest following the February 2023 incident but received a bail modification in May that allowed him to report to work.
