BVI residents shop ahead of 24-hour curfew, which takes effect Monday By. ANGELA BURNS/VI CONSORTIUM

TORTOLA, BVI — Day 1 of the limited curfew in the British Virgin Islands saw frenzied shopping at the three major supermarkets on Thursday — Riteway, OneMart and Bobby’s.

The BVI government said persons with last names A-I were authorized to shop and do other essential services, in preparation for the full 24 hour curfew starting Monday.

The curfew is in an effort to flatten the curve of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Friday and Saturday, persons from J-R and S-Z respectively will be allowed to shop and conduct essential services business.

The BVI has 3 imported cases of COVID-19.
