BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – To celebrate the work being done by persons on the frontline in the fight against COVID-19, the nation is being encouraged to show their appreciation by participating in a nationwide clap on Wednesday.
The event to be held on Wednesday at 8:00 pm (local time) will celebrate those in the health field, including doctors, nurses, porters, emergency call workers at quarantine and isolation centres, staff at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) .
One of the organisers of the event Sally Clarke, told Barbados today that everyone is urged to participate from their homes.
“People are being asked to stand at their windows, front doors, balconies or just in their yards for a round of applause, or make some sort of noise or sound.”
Similar initiatives have been taking place across the world, including London, France, Turkey, Israel, Belgium, and Spain.
To date, Barbados has recorded 71 confirmed COVID-19 cases – of this number four have died and 11 have recovered from the virus.
