The University of the Virgin Islands announced on Wednesday that it is preparing to welcome new and transfer students for the Spring 2026 semester, with orientation programs scheduled on both the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix and the Orville E. Kean Campus on St. Thomas.
Orientation activities are designed to help students transition smoothly into university life by introducing them to academic expectations, campus resources, and student support services, while also creating opportunities to connect with faculty, staff, Orientation Leaders, and fellow students, UVI said.
New Student Orientation will begin on Friday, Jan. 9, 2026, on both campuses. University officials said the program will combine informative sessions with interactive experiences aimed at helping students build a sense of community and feel at home at UVI. Planned activities include welcoming social gatherings, campus tours, and opportunities for students to connect with peers in relaxed and supportive settings.
A central feature of orientation on both campuses will be the Buccaneer Medallion Ceremony, a longstanding UVI tradition that formally welcomes new students into the university community. The ceremony symbolizes students’ commitment to academic excellence and Buccaneer pride.
“Orientation marks the beginning of a transformative journey for our new and transfer students,” said Dr. Pamela Moolenaar-Wirsiy, vice president of student success and innovation at the University of the Virgin Islands. “These sessions are designed to equip students with the tools, knowledge, and connections they need to thrive academically and personally, while fostering a strong sense of belonging within the UVI community.”
The university strongly encourages all incoming students to participate in orientation, citing its critical role in student engagement, persistence, and overall success.
