The USVI Committee of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) has announced that the deadline for nominations for its open State Chair position has been extended to January 17.
The successful nominee will embark on a three-year term in the Department of Defense post, leading a team of fellow volunteers in carrying out the mission of the ESGR – to develop and promote supportive civilian work environments for Reserve Component service members.
This is done, according to ESGR, through “outreach, recognition and educational opportunities to increase awareness of applicable laws,” with the organization conducting proactive outreach to service members and civilian employers, “ensuring all are aware of their rights and responsibilities under the Uniformed Service Employment and Reemployment Rights Act.”
The new State Chair would join ESGR headquarters staff and a complement of almost 3,000 volunteers across 54 state committees.
The ideal candidate for the volunteer position would have an “established network of military and/or employer contacts,” and a knowledge of the Reserve and military culture would be welcomed. Budgeting, volunteer leadership management and recruiting, and strategic planning are all necessary skills for the role.
Interested parties are invited to submit nomination packages containing a biographical summary or resume, a letter explaining their interest in serving as well as thoughts/plans for their leadership stint, and other supporting materials including recommendations. These packages must be submitted by email or physical mail by January 17, 2024.
