The V.I. Committee of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) is currently accepting nominations for Virgin Islands ESGR state chair.
The state chair is a volunteer position under the Department of Defense with a tenure lasting three years. The person who assumes this role will be responsible for offering leadership and setting the vision for a team of volunteers spread across the territory.
ESGR is an office of the Department of Defense, committed to fostering supportive work environments for Reserve Component service members within the civilian sector. This is achieved through a variety of means including outreach programs, acknowledgment initiatives, and educational opportunities that boost awareness of relevant laws. The organization's nearly 3,000 volunteers distributed across 54 state committees actively engage both service members and civilian employers to ensure comprehensive understanding of their respective rights and responsibilities under the Uniformed Service Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA).
Those considering the EGSR state chair role should ideally possess an existing network of contacts within military and/or employer spheres. While a comprehensive understanding of the Reserve Components and familiarity with military culture would be advantageous, it is not a mandatory requirement. Candidates should also exhibit proficiency in areas such as budgeting, volunteer leadership management, recruiting, and strategic planning.
