The upcoming implementation of a fee for St. John taxi drivers is now postponed until at least next January.

The National Park Service had planned to impose a 3% transaction fee, starting January 1, 2025. The start date was reportedly pushed back to February, after discussions facilitated by Senator Angel Bolques Jr.

A press statement from the lawmaker indicated that further discussions and advocacy have resulted in the fee implementation being delayed again, this time until January 1, 2026.

Senator Bolques urged taxi drivers on St. John to use the reprieve to prepare for the added fee next January. He committed to working with the Taxi Cab Commission in reviewing tariffs for the island, and facilitating further discussions between stakeholders on finding ways to mitigate the impact of the upcoming 3% transaction fee.
