ST. THOMAS — The Virgin Islands Housing Authority on Tuesday notified the public of road closures leading to and from the Estate Tutu Hi-Rise area (Buildings 10 – 22) also known as “Ras Valley", as demolition is set to begin.
The site of hurricane-damaged Estate Tutu Hi-Rise Apartments will be fenced for public safety while the demolition takes place, the authority said.
Controlled pedestrian walkways and designated portions of the roadways will remain open so persons who reside within the surrounding area will have access to their homes and businesses. This will also ensure access to nearby residences and businesses in the event of an emergency.
V. I. Waste Management Authority will continue its door-to-door waste collection service for residents in the surrounding Annas Retreat area, the authority said. No additional dumpsters will be available for non-residents. Non-residents should use the alternative waste disposal sites located at Mandahl Convenience Center, Raphune, Brookman Rd., or Nazareth.
The fencing and road closure will remain in effect until all five buildings are demolished and the area is safe for public access and egress in the area.
For a limited time from Thursday, February 11 to Monday February 15, the road section in front of Building 14 will be temporarily closed.
