ST. CROIX — A severe two-vehicle collision occurred on the Queen Mary Highway near the Whim Museum at about 7:01 p.m. Tuesday, the V.I. Police Department has confirmed to the Consortium. The incident resulted in the death of a male victim, while another individual sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
According to the VIPD, officers from the Wilbur Francis command responded to the scene after being notified by the 911 Emergency Call Center. Preliminary findings indicate that a black Acura, traveling eastbound at high speeds and overtaking other vehicles on the road, collided head-on with a westbound Ford Escape.
The driver of the Acura succumbed to injuries sustained from the crash. Efforts are currently underway to identify the deceased, the VIPD said Wednesday morning.
The driver of the Ford Escape was reported to have sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The case has been referred to the VIPD's Traffic Investigation Bureau and remains open for further inquiry. Authorities urge any witnesses or individuals with information about the incident to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
