The V.I. Dept. of Health Wednesday night announced 728 Covid-19 cases territory-wide, a surge of 425 active infections from Tuesday's 303. Yet even with the surge, the USVI positivity rate fell to 3.45 percent, a 4.47 percentage point drop from yesterday, owing to the high level of testing D.O.H. has been conducting throughout this week, with the majority returning negative.

According to data provided by D.O.H., a total of 13,117 tests were conducted between Monday and Tuesday, with only 437 returning positive.

There were 192 active cases on St. Croix, 523 on St. Thomas and 12 on St. John. The latest numbers show a rise in cases on all three islands, though St. Thomas — where the 70th anniversary of V.I. Carnival was held last week — represented the majority of the new infections.

Meanwhile, there were two Covid-19 patients at the Schneider Regional Medical Center, while the Juan F. Luis Hospital's last Covid-19 status update was posted on its social media platform on April 11.

On Tuesday, D.O.H. reported two deaths related to Covid-19, bringing the territory's total since the pandemic began to 113.

With cases on the rise, D.O.H. on Tuesday reminded Virgin Islanders of their responsibility to quarantine if they test positive for Covid.

Below are the guidelines:

Isolation: For individuals with positive test results, regardless of symptoms:

  • Vaccinated individuals: isolation should be for 7 days from positive test date. You may return to in-person activities 8 days after the positive test date. A negative test is not required.
  • Unvaccinated individuals: isolate for 10 days from the positive test date. You may return to in-person activities 11 days after the positive test date. A negative test is not required.
  • Regardless of vaccine status: When around in-home family members wear a well-fitting mask around mouth and nose for 10 days. You cannot test out of isolation at any point. Isolation is time based as explained above.

Quarantine: For close contacts of persons with positive test results:

  • Vaccinated individuals with no symptoms: quarantine for 7 days, with the option to test out of quarantine at least 5 days after your last exposure. Return to in-person activities after receiving a negative test.
  • Unvaccinated individuals who have no symptoms: quarantine for 10 days, with the option test out of quarantine at least 7 days after your last exposure. Return to in-person activities after receiving a negative test.
  • If you develop symptoms: get tested as soon as possible.
