The mother of the St. Croix-born man murdered by Aaron Hernandez is embarking on a lawsuit against him, according to the Associated Press.

Ursula Ward’s attorney is seeking to figure out how much money Hernandez has and where it is, the Associated Press said.

When the New England Patriot tight end murdered Odin Lloyd in June 2013, he had a $40 million contract with the team.

Attorney Douglass Sheff said in a press conference that he plans to call Hernandez to testify when the case goes to trial despite the fact that it could be years away. Sheff added that Ward, the mother of Lloyd, wants to look Hernandez in the eye when he testifies, something he did not do at his criminal trial.

“She wants to ask what happened,” Sheff said. “Very simple. What happened. And the next question: Why?” Sheff called Lloyd’s death and unthinkable loss.

Hernandez was convicted of the first-degree murder of Lloyd April 15 in Massachusetts.
