3 Systems Threaten Caribbean Islands; Tropical Storm Humberto Affecting Northwestern Bahamas Is Forecast To Become Hurricane By Sunday

The National Hurricane Center in its 5:00 a.m. advisory said three tropical waves with varying chances of development were churning in the Atlantic Ocean, all of which, according to the current trajectory, could affect the Caribbean in the coming days. There's one located about 600 miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands, with N.H.C. projecting that gradual development of this system is possible during the next several days and a tropical depression could form early next week while it moves westward across the tropical Atlantic. This system has a 60 percent chance of development within the next five days, and a 20 percent chance within 48 hours. Another area of disturbed weather located about 1000 miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands may merge with the tropical wave approaching from the east over the weekend, N.H.C. said.
