The University of the Virgin Islands has announced that all classes and employee work will be suspended on Wednesday, September 24, in anticipation of severe weather conditions. Only essential employees are required to report in person, and they are advised to contact their supervisors to confirm reporting status.

All classes will be suspended for the day. UVI urged students to remain indoors and avoid unnecessary travel during the storm. The university also advised students to charge cellphones and devices in advance, noting that internet and Wi-Fi services may be interrupted if power outages occur. On-campus residents will be able to rely on Resident Assistants (RAs) for guidance and updates.

All employee work will be suspended on Wednesday, except for essential personnel. Staff members uncertain of their status are asked to check with their supervisors. The university advised employees to cover computers, printers, and other sensitive equipment to prevent damage, particularly in areas prone to flooding.

Plastics to cover electronics will be available from UVI’s Physical Plant offices:

  • Albert A. Sheen Campus, St. Croix: (340) 692-4171

  • Orville E. Kean Campus, St. Thomas: (340) 693-1500

Faculty and staff were also reminded to expect disruptions to internet and Wi-Fi access due to possible power outages and adverse weather conditions.
