The National Weather Service in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on Tuesday issued a new advisory for Tropical Storm Philippe, forecasting that while the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico will be spared direct impact from the system, heavy rains and gusty winds will impact the territories through Thursday.
Positioned east-northeast of the local islands, Philippe's outer rainbands are set to bring significant rainfall, with the U.S. Virgin Islands expected to bear the brunt of these conditions. Despite avoiding the storm's direct wind impacts, residents should still prepare for the ensuing weather disturbances.
The areas anticipated to experience the most rainfall are the U.S. Virgin Islands, Culebra, Vieques, and the northern and eastern parts of Puerto Rico. Brief gusty winds, with speeds ranging between 30-40 mph, may accompany the strongest showers and thunderstorms. Additionally, the coastal areas should exercise caution due to the expected hazardous seas and potential life-threatening rip currents across the Atlantic waters and shorelines.
Residents are strongly encouraged to stay updated with the latest information and take the necessary precautions against the potential threats posed by Tropical Storm Philippe.
