The National Weather Service in San Juan, Puerto Rico, has issued an advisory regarding the remnants of Tropical Storm Philippe, which are anticipated to reach Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands by Sunday. While tropical storm force winds are not expected to impact the regions, residents are being alerted to potential flooding risks.
Key points from the advisory include:
- The main threat from the remnants of Tropical Storm Philippe will be the increased risk of flooding due to heavy rains.
- Starting from Saturday and extending into the early part of the next workweek, the local islands can expect a surge in showers and thunderstorms, accompanied by occasional gusty winds.
- Rainfall totals between 2 and 4 inches, possibly even higher, are predicted across the U.S. Virgin Islands and the northern and eastern parts of Puerto Rico through Monday. Other areas are likely to see rainfall totals ranging from 1 to 2 inches.
- Alongside the flooding risks, the National Weather Service also warns of hazardous marine conditions and dangerous surf, particularly across the Atlantic waters and coastlines.
The National Hurricane Center's latest forecast, issued at 5:00 a.m. on Wednesday, shows the projected path of Tropical Storm Philippe and the probabilities of sustained surface wind speeds reaching or exceeding 39 mph.
Residents are advised to monitor the situation closely and take necessary precautions to ensure safety.
