The V.I. Water and Power Authority on Saturday night announced that it would initiate a rotating power strategy in the St. Thomas-St. John District as power generation woes being experienced at the Randolph Harley Power Plant persisted all day and into the night.

The rotating power schedule was announced as Tropical Storm Grace approaches; the storm is projected to start impacting the USVI 8:00 a.m. Sunday.

In a release Saturday night, WAPA said, "A schedule of rotating power outages has been implemented on St. Thomas as a result of a shortage of generation capacity at the Randolph Harley Power Plant. Until 8:30 pm, customers on Feeder 6A will experience a service interruption; customers on Feeder 8B will be in a service interruption from 8:30 pm - 9:30 pm;  customers on Feeder 7B will experience a service interruption from 9:30 pm - 10:30 pm; customers on Feeder 9C  will be in service interruption from 10:30 pm -11:30 pm and customers on Feeder 10B will experience a service interruption from 11:30 pm - 12:30 a.m."

WAPA said plant personnel were working to rebuild plant capacity to facilitate restoration of service.
