ST. CROIX — After several power outages throughout the day on St. Croix, the V.I. Water and Power Authority finally issued an announcement at 3:50 p.m. regarding the electrical interruptions in the St. Croix district, which began during the early morning hours of Sunday.

WAPA stated that the outages are due to mechanical issues at the Richmond Power Plant, specifically with Unit 20, which has led to a reduction in generation capacity. The unscheduled repairs required for this unit have necessitated a temporary power rotation schedule across the island, according to the utility.

The announced rotation schedule is as follows:

  • 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM: Feeder 2A
  • 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM: Feeders 4A and 6A
  • 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM: Feeder 9B
  • 7:30 PM to 10:30 PM: Feeders 3A and 10B (These feeders will only be rotated for an outage if load demands require it.)

WAPA indicated that a 15-minute delay may be anticipated based on the restoration schedule for each feeder.

The authority expressed appreciation for the public’s patience and understanding during this period as its personnel work to restore full power capacity to the island. WAPA also advised residents to prepare for these outages and adjust their plans accordingly.
