The Randolph Harley Power Plant in St. Thomas. By. ERNICE GILBERT FOR VI CONSORTIUM

The V.I. Water and Power Authority said power was fully restored to customers in the St. Thomas-St. John District just after midnight after a major power outage affected the district at 7:20 p.m. Sunday, causing a blackout.

Power was restored by 12:25 a.m. Monday, said Jean P. Greaux, WAPA communications director.

WAPA's first notice of the district-wide outage was issued at about 7:49 p.m. The authority said "an apparent electrical fault which tripped Feeder 6A followed by the subsequent loss of generation capacity at the Randolph Harley Power Plant" led to the blackout. The authority later revealed that Feeder 6A is in close proximity to the power plant.

In a subsequent notice, the authority said plant personnel were continuing efforts to rebuild the generation capacity needed to restore electrical service. At the time, one generating unit and Feeders 8A and 9C were online.

Notice for St. John WAPA Customers

WAPA said some customers on St. John will experience an electrical service interruption on Monday and Tuesday while WAPA contractor, BBC Electrical Services, transfers service lines from wooden poles to newly installed composite poles in the Greater Cruz Bay area.

On both Monday and Tuesday, the service interruption will begin at 9 a.m. and restoration is expected by 2 p.m.
