The V.I. Water and Power Authority has announced the resignation of its Chief Financial Officer Jacob Lewis. Lewis, who WAPA said will be leaving to pursue a new professional opportunity. He will continue his duties until the end of the year to facilitate a smooth transition.

Andrew Smith, the CEO of WAPA, expressed his sentiments regarding Lewis's departure: “I have worked with Jake since 2015 and I am sorry to see him go. He has been a tremendous asset to WAPA and has contributed to significant improvement not only in the Authority’s finance function but also across the entire organization.”

Stepping into the role of Interim CFO is Lorraine Kelly, the current director of accounting/comptroller at WAPA. Ms. Kelly brings over 30 years of experience in finance and accounting management, including previous roles as CFO at ASHINC Corporation and Partner at Tatum LLC. “Interim CFO Kelly joined WAPA about one year ago and has been instrumental in helping drive the turnaround of the Authority,” said Mr. Smith. He expressed confidence in her ability to continue the progress at WAPA.

Ms. Kelly's achievements in the field include leading finance and compliance initiatives that have guided financially challenged companies toward stability and growth. She has received numerous accolades for her excellence, including the top consultant at Tatum, the CEO Award of Excellence at Verizon, and recognitions for her character and integrity. In 2023, Ms. Kelly was honored with Marquis Who’s Who as Who’s Who Women “Professional Women of Influence” and Who’s Who in America awards.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Ms. Kelly is known for her philanthropic efforts with organizations like Partnership Against Domestic Violence, Girl Scouts, Zonta International, and UNICEF, focusing on the advancement of women and children and combating domestic violence and human trafficking. She resides on St. Thomas with her family.

WAPA extends its gratitude to Mr. Lewis for his contributions and warmly welcomes Interim CFO Kelly. With Kelly’s guidance, WAPA is confident in continuing to thrive and achieve its strategic objectives.
