An unexpected islandwide power outage on St. Croix on Sunday prompted utility crews to begin investigating the cause of the disruption, with officials working to safely restore electricity to affected customers. According to the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority, plant personnel are actively assessing the situation and will issue public updates as more information becomes available.

The outage has already impacted critical services on the island. In a public advisory, the Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital & Medical Center announced that the power interruption had affected the facility’s phone lines. “Please be advised, the current power outage is effecting the phone lines at the hospital. We expect the issue to be resolved when power is back. In case of emergency, please call 911,” the notice read.

As restoration efforts continue, WAPA thanked the community for its patience and support. No timeline for full restoration has yet been provided.
