St. Croix Police Chief Winsbut McFarland, above left, is employing a new strategy to help beat back gun violence. The idea is to go into communities and talk to leaders about joining forces for the greater good. The effort started in Estate Grove Place on Wednesday, underneath a tree at the Drive-Inn facility. Police can't do everything, the chief argues; the help of community leaders where these violent crimes occur is indelible to the V.I.P.D.'s success.
