ST. CROIX -- The VI Waste Management Authority is advising the public that the Melvin Evans Highway Wastewater Line Rehabilitation Project, which began on Tuesday, will begin to impact westbound traffic just west of the Diageo stoplights starting Thursday.
The traffic will be reduced to one lane for about 2,000 feet before returning to two lanes. This traffic pattern is expected to last for about three days. Motorists are asked to reduce their vehicular speed and to proceed with caution in the area, according to W.M.A.
The project -- whose contract was awarded to Rotating Equipment Corporation for $84,691 -- includes the replacement of a deteriorated 10 inch line, installation of a new wastewater gravity line and connection of the new line to existing manholes, according to W.M.A.
The project starts just north of the Melvin Evans Highway and will run south under the highway near the open field in the Estate Profit area.
