As the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority prepares to switch to a new substation, power service will be interrupted for 15 minutes on Wednesday morning at 8 a.m. on St. Croix, the company has made known.

WAPA says the interruption will allow the transfer of feeder 8, an aged feeder located in Christiansted, to a new substation WAPA is calling feeder 8B, located at the Remainder 3 Estate Spanish Town.

The new feeder will distribute power to the following locations:

Alexander Henderson School Arthur A. Richards School Brooks Hill Campo Rico Cane Carlton Carlton Claude O. Markoe School Concordia West Cruzan Rum Diageo Rum Factory Enfield Green Frederiksted Estate Mountain Good Hope School Hannah’s Rest Harrigan Court Henry E. Rohlsen Airport La Grange Marley Project Mars Hill Smithfield St. Georges Hill Transmitter site Sunshine Mall Two Brothers Two Williams Walter M. Hodge Wheel of Fortune Whim White Bay White Lady Williams Delight

According to the  release, the pristine midland substation will distribute power mostly to the western part of the Island and some east locations.

Said Hugo Hodge Jr., WAPA Executive Director: "This 69kv transmission line from Estate Richmond to the Midland substation is the first true transmission circuit in Virgin Islands history.

"The substation will assist with decreasing line loss on the distribution system, improving system reliability, enhancing system protection and automation, and developing future load expansion."
