St. Thomas Woman Killed, Body Left In Burning House

Police have ruled a death that occurred Friday morning on St. Thomas a murder after finding a woman's body in a burning house in Estate Mandal, police spokesperson Melody Rames has announced.

The victim has been identified as 54-year-old Merle Natta.

The fire was called into 911 Emergency dispatch at around 8 a.m. on Jan. 23. Members of the V.I. Fire Service extinguished the flames, after which the unresponsive female was found in the kitchen with trauma to her body, police say.

Police did not release the victim's cause of death or information on what started the fire.
