ST. CROIX -- Vonne Bailey of St. Croix is facing two years in prison and a fine of $250,000 for receiving a package in the mail loaded with an illegal firearm, United States Attorney Ronald W. Sharpe has announced.
According to Sharpe, Bailey admitted that on May 26, 2014, United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) intercepted a package shipped from outside the Virgin Islands, containing a Springfield Armory .40 caliber pistol, a magazine and a Smith and Wesson AR-15 lower receiver with an obliterated serial number. Federal agents traced the delivery to Bailey’s residence, and Bailey admitted that he was responsible for and owned the package.
The 24-year-old was subsequently charged with one count of unlawful mailing of a firearm.
The case was investigated by the Department of Homeland Security Homeland Security Investigations, and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Rhonda Williams-Henry and Rami Badawy
