ST. THOMAS -- Scotiabank’s annual commitment to the University of the Virgin Islands was demonstrated during a Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours event where the bank contributed $15,000 to the UVI Scotiabank Scholarship Fund, a press release the bank issued late Friday made known.
The event was held on Thursday, October 8 at the newly renovated Scotiabank Altona Branch.
On hand to accept the donation was Dr. David Hall, president of UVI along with Scotiabank officials. Students receiving this year's scholarship are Debbie Bermudez, Candace Mootoo, Jaelene Henderson and Devon Williams, according to the release. Two were also present at the event.
Sharon R. Kendall, Scotiabank’s Altona branch manager, welcomed guests to the newly renovated branch.
“At Scotiabank, we continue with our tradition of honoring the communities in which we do business," Ms. Kendall said. "It is a privilege and honor to present young people in the Virgin Islands with the annual scholarship. We commend and acknowledge the excellence of the students who have been the recipients this year and in the past."
All recipients of this year’s scholarship are majoring in the field of Business Administration. Correction: November 7, 2015
