ST. THOMAS -- Department of Public Works employees worked into the night on Wednesday to address deteriorating road conditions on St. Thomas, the department said Thursday.
A tropical wave affected the territory over the weekend and into Wednesday, with heavy downpours across St. Thomas late Wednesday causing flash flooding and canceled flights.
D.P.W. said its crews worked until midnight and were back at it at 6:00 a.m. Thursday clearing boulders and other debris from the roadways to ensure safe passage for motorists.
“In any storm event, the safety of our employees is paramount,” said D.P.W. Commissioner Nelson Petty. “I am grateful for their devotion to safeguarding the wellbeing of our community.”
Public Works said it stands ready for the current hurricane season and encouraged residents to remain vigilant.
