ST. THOMAS -- During a board meeting at Sub Base on Wednesday, the Virgin Islands Port Authority board took several actions during the board's monthly meeting, among them a standout: a contract to replace the roof of the Henry E. Rohlsen Airport on St. Croix, including the single-ply membrane and metal standing system.
The contract to replace the roof was awarded to Lemartec. It will cost $8.8 million and will take nine months to complete, according to the board. Funding for the project will be secured through insurance dollars.
The airport's roof was badly damaged by Hurricane Maria, forcing officials to shutdown its commercial flights operation for weeks following the storm.
