ST. THOMAS -- A Florida woman drowned on Friday after falling into what has been described as "the treacherous waters" of Peterborg Point, V.I.P.D. Media Specialist Sakeea Freeman announced late Saturday. First alert of the incident came in at roughly 6:08 p.m. by the 911 emergency call center.
Identified as 22-year-old Savannah Rey Finn of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Ms. Finn's boyfriend and friends were desperately attempting to rescue her by the time St. Thomas Rescue arrived on the scene. However, after resurfacing once and at which point she had appeared to be lifeless, the rough ocean consumed Ms. Finn, who then "disappeared," according to St. Thomas Rescue Chief Liston Thomas. He added that the high surf and rough waters prevented his members from rescuing Ms. Finn.
Ms. Finn's friends and boyfriend, who had washed off the rocks during their attempts to save the victim, managed to climb onto the rocks and were rescued, according to the release.
The search for Ms. Finn was dismissed at approximately 8:00 p.m. and reconvened at roughly 5:30 a.m. March 19, 2016. The Department of Planning and Natural Resources enforcement officers and V.I.P.D. officers continued their search of Peterborg Point coastal waters for Ms. Finn to no avail. The search was terminated at approximately 5:32 p.m. and was scheduled to resume on March 20, 2016, at approximately 5:00 a.m.
