Firemen Put Out Blaze At Anguilla Landfill

ST. CROIX -- At approximately 9:35 a.m. on Monday, the Grove Place and Frederiksted fire stations were dispatched to the Anguilla Landfill attending to a report of fire on the site, according to a press release Government House issued this morning.

Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters found several areas at the top of the landfill emitting smoke. The fire crew, along with A-9 Enterprises Inc. employees, began opening and extinguishing the flames.

The servicemen, aided by A-9 Enterprises fought the fire for 5 hours using approximately 10,000 gallons of water. The blaze was extinguished at approximately 2:30 p.m. and a safety check of the area was completed.

At 3:30 am, all units and crew returned to their respective stations. There was no disturbance to operations at the Henry E. Rohlsen Airport.
