Fire Damages Efficiency Apartment At John F. Kennedy Housing Community

ST. CROIX -- The Christiansted branch of the Fire Service confirmed to The Consortium that a structural fire damaged an efficiency apartment at the John F. Kennedy Housing Community at about 1:20 p.m. this afternoon.

According to Fire Captain Henry Joseph, the initial report was made by a VIFS lieutenant followed by a notification from 911 emergency call center.

A person who was on the scene while the efficiency apartment was on fire sent The Consortium images of the blaze, along with a video that shows firemen working to contain it.

Captain Joseph and his men arrived on the scene at about 1:24 p.m. and contained the blaze 20 minutes later. The fire was completely extinguished about 10-15 minutes later, according to Mr. Joseph. No one was injured during the incident.

Mr. Joseph said more details could not be released because the incident was still under investigation.
