The V.I. Department of Tourism announced on Thursday that American Airlines is expanding direct flights from the Midwest to the St. Croix and St. Thomas ahead of the bustling winter travel season.
Starting December 6, 2025, travelers from the Midwest will have a new direct flight option to St. Croix's Henry E. Rohlsen Airport (STX), departing every Saturday from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD). This new connection offers visitors convenient access to experience St. Croix.
American Airlines will also boost its existing Saturday-only flight schedule between Chicago O’Hare and Cyril E. King Airport (STT) on St. Thomas. Beginning December 18, 2025, this service will transition to daily flights, providing increased flexibility and convenience for travelers eager to visit St. Thomas.
Commenting on this development, Tourism Commissioner Joseph Boschulte noted, “These expanded routes from one of our key gateway cities reflect the strong and growing demand for travel to the U.S. Virgin Islands.” Boschulte further expressed gratitude for American Airlines' ongoing support and investment in the destination, emphasizing that the enhanced flight connectivity would significantly benefit the islands’ tourism-dependent economy and numerous associated businesses.
