The V.I. Port Authority announced Wednesday that a new air service connecting the U.S. Virgin Islands and the Dominican Republic will commence on March 27.
SkyHigh Dominicana begins non-stop air service between the Dominican Republic and St. Thomas on Monday, March 27, VIPA said in a release. Port Authority airport officials and the Department of Tourism will greet the inaugural flight passengers on Monday at 10 a.m. at the Cyril E. King Airport.
“The demand for more airlift throughout the Caribbean is increasing. This new, affordable air service will allow residents in both the USVI and the Dominican Republic to easily visit family and friends and presents excellent opportunities for increased tourism between both destinations,” said V.I. Port Authority Executive Director Carlton Dowe.
Starting March 27, SkyHigh Dominicana will operate two weekly flights between Santo Domingo's Las Américas International Airport (SDQ) and St. Thomas' Cyril E. King Airport (STT). The new route will feature the Embraer ERJ 145 with a capacity of 50 passengers and the Embraer-190 which has nine business and 88 coach seats, offering passengers a comfortable and enjoyable flying experience.

Mr. Dowe thanked his management team for their hard work to bring this new airlift to fruition. He also thanked the authority’s Board of Governors and the Bryan/Roach Administration for their continued support and assistance. “VIPA continues to be aggressive in addressing the vexing issue of the lack of inter-island and inter-Caribbean flights. We are using every tool at our disposal to provide some relief to the people of this territory, and thus far we are making great progress,” the VIPA executive director stated.
