Motorcyclist Injured in Accident in Estate Fortuna. The victim is awaiting Transport Out of the Territory for Medical Treatment.

ST. THOMAS — A motorcyclist was injured Saturday evening in Fortuna when he crashed into a wall trying to avoid a vehicle traveling on the wrong side of the road, police said.

At approximately 5:26 p.m., the 911 Emergency Call Center was notified of the accident in the vicinity of the Fortuna Townhouses. According to the Virgin Islands Police Department, the 42-year-old man was traveling when he observed a vehicle in the opposite direction on the wrong side of the road. The motorcyclist attempted to avoid a head-on collision and lost control of the motorcycle, hitting a wall.

The man was taken to Roy Schneider Medical Center by private transportation.

The victim was not wearing a motorcycle helmet, and received injuries to his head and other parts of his body. He was listed in stable condition, and arrangements were being made for transport off-island for further medical treatment. 

The accident is under investigation. Anyone with information on this matter is urged to call 911 or the Traffic Investigation Bureau at (340) 774-2211.
