The Governing Board of the Virgin Islands Port Authority has given the green light for a lease between the agency and Jet Blue Airways.

Jet Blue will lease two ticket counters and an office space of the Henry R. Rohlsen airport, in order to support the daily round trip flights between St. Croix and Puerto Rico. “This will make a positive impact in the territory,” said WAPA general counsel Catheriny Hendry. Rental fees for both the ticket booths and the office space total just over $24,000.

Discussion on the subject was brief, with Dept. of Tourism Commissioner Joseph Boschulte confirming that JetBlue had also signed on to the terms and conditions in the contract. The measure passed unanimously by the board members present.

The board also approved the request to modify the lease agreement with Priority Rural Service. As Ms. Henry explained, the company needed more space to accommodate its operations. Over the life of the 3-year contract, total rental fees will be $256, 815.26, counsel noted. A rent increase will come at the beginning of the third year, and every two years subsequent to that.
