ST. THOMAS — Fly the Whale will begin daily service between Cyril E. King Airport on St. Thomas and San Juan’s Isla Grande Airport on August 3, adding a morning flight to the territory and an afternoon return to Puerto Rico.
The U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Tourism announced the route Monday, describing it as an additional regional transportation option for business travelers, residents seeking medical services and leisure visitors.
Under the schedule, the flight from Isla Grande Airport to St. Thomas will depart daily at 8:40 a.m. and arrive at 9:15 a.m. The return flight will leave St. Thomas at 3:15 p.m. and arrive in San Juan at 3:50 p.m.
Isla Grande Airport is located near Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport, providing travelers with access to onward flights to the U.S. mainland and international destinations.
“Reliable and convenient air service is essential to the continued growth of the U.S. Virgin Islands’ visitor economy,” said RoseAnne DeFreitas, Deputy Commissioner of the U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Tourism. “We are pleased to welcome Fly the Whale’s new St. Thomas–San Juan service, which not only creates greater connectivity within the Caribbean but also provides residents and visitors with another convenient option for regional travel. Every new air service investment strengthens our destination’s accessibility and supports tourism, commerce and economic opportunity throughout the Territory.”
Fly the Whale began operating inter-island service between St. Croix and St. Thomas in 2023. The new route expands the airline’s regional network and adds another connection between the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
Governor Albert Bryan Jr. said the service supports the administration’s efforts to increase airlift and improve access to the territory.
“Our Administration has remained focused on strengthening transportation infrastructure and expanding airlift because we know connectivity is critical to our economy and quality of life,” said Governor Albert Bryan Jr. “This new Fly the Whale service provides greater convenience for residents traveling for business, healthcare or personal reasons while making it easier for visitors to experience everything the U.S. Virgin Islands has to offer. We appreciate Fly the Whale’s continued investment in our Territory and look forward to the positive impact this service will have on our tourism industry and local economy.”
