The V.I. Port Authority has announced a temporary change to the passenger pick-up area at the Cyril E. King Airport (CEKA) on St. Thomas.

Starting Tuesday, February 27 passengers will be directed to a new pick-up location situated at the front section (sidewalk) of the newly constructed Parking and Transportation Center.

To facilitate easy and safe access between the terminal and the temporary pick-up area, VIPA said it will provide a crosswalk and ADA-accessible ramps. During peak hours, VIPA police will assist with traffic control and help pedestrians safely cross to the pick-up area.

This adjustment is necessitated by the demolition of the current pick-up area near the terminal baggage claim to make way for the construction of two exit lanes. This development aims to enhance the flow of vehicular traffic at the airport.

VIPA advises travelers that due to ongoing construction efforts, passenger drop-off at the CEKA Terminal should be conducted promptly to avoid congestion. Parking directly alongside the terminal is strictly prohibited, and public parking at CEKA will be unavailable until further notice.

Travelers are encouraged to make arrangements for drop-offs and pick-ups when using the King Airport. In the meantime, free public parking is available adjacent to the old Island Beachcomber Hotel near Lindbergh Bay Beach.

VIPA also informs delivery truck drivers doing business at CEKA that they may park alongside the terminal’s brick wall near Gate 11. The public is reminded to follow all parking signs and adhere to instructions from VIPA police, who will be diligently working to enforce safety measures and reduce congestion during this period.

The new Parking and Transportation Center at CEKA is expected to partially open for public parking in April 2024, as part of VIPA's ongoing efforts to improve airport facilities and services.
