HENRY E. ROHLSEN AIRPORT By. V.I. PORT AUTHORITY

ST. CROIX — A bomb threat at the Henry E. Rohlsen Airport Thursday afternoon led to multiple flight delays, people with knowledge of the incident have confirmed to the Consortium. The V.I. Port Authority subsequently issued a statement confirming the incident.

"Around 12:10 p.m., an explosive device threat was reported to the VIPA Police Division. VIPA’s police immediately investigated the reported threat. The incident was also reported to all local and federal law enforcement agencies, and it is still under investigation," the Port Authority said.

According to one of the people with knowledge of the matter, an employee of an airline reported that someone called to say a bomb was placed in a luggage. As a result, airport security officials both federal and local performed a secondary screening of luggage as an added security measure — leading to multiple flight delays.

"Other than some delays in passenger processing, airport operations were not disrupted and the airport remains open. Travelers are advised to contact their airline directly for updates regarding flight schedules at the Rohlsen Airport," the statement added.

The matter remains under investigation.
