ST. CROIX — Would-be passengers of a Spirit Airlines' Monday afternoon flight never boarded the plane because the aircraft never arrived to St. Croix.  The Consortium on Monday night received a call relative to some friction at the Henry E. Rohlsen Airport. This person did not have much details, however the publication later learned that a Spirit Airlines flight cancellation had left customers displeased.

The scheduled flight had 167 passengers, according to a release the V.I. Port Authority issued late Monday confirming the cancellation. This left many individuals stranded, prompting VIPA to make contact with the V.I. Dept. of Tourism, which implemented its “Stranded Passenger” program and was able to find accommodations for all the travelers that needed a place to stay, according to the Port Authority.

"Inclement weather in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida caused Spirit Airlines to cancel its flight scheduled to arrive at 4:06 p.m. on St. Croix today," the Port Authority said. "This left the 164 Spirit Airlines customers scheduled to depart at 4:56 p.m. without a flight this afternoon."

The Port Authority thanked Dept. of Tourism staff for their quick response to ensure all travelers were accommodated. Travelers affected by Monday's flight cancellation will be rebooked by Spirit Airlines, VIPA said.

On Friday, Spirt Airlines' afternoon flight saw multiple delays, with the aircraft eventually leaving St. Croix after 6:00 p.m. that day.
