An American Airlines flight departing St. Croix on Monday afternoon was diverted to the Bahamas after weather delays prevented it from reaching Miami.

The flight, which left Henry E. Rohlsen Airport at 1:47 p.m., was scheduled to arrive in Miami at 4:54 p.m. However, inclement weather near Miami caused the aircraft to circle for about half an hour, according to passengers on the aircraft. With fuel running low, the plane was redirected and landed in the Bahamas at 5:03 p.m.

Passengers on board said they were frustrated by the unexpected diversion. At the time of reporting, the aircraft had not yet pulled up to the gate due to ongoing weather conditions. Even once at the gate, passengers were told they would remain on board until a replacement crew arrived in the Bahamas.

No information has been provided on when the flight will be able to leave the Bahamas and continue to Miami, leaving passengers uncertain about the duration of the delay.
