PUERTO RICO — A passenger aboard the Royal Caribbean cruise ship "Oasis of the Seas" died after going overboard in Puerto Rico, Coast Guard officials said.

A team of divers within the Puerto Rico Police Department and the San Juan Municipal Police recovered the body of the man, age 46, who is said to be from Naples, Florida. He went overboard while the ship was docked in Old San Juan Wednesday night, the Coast Guard said.

After reviewing closed circuit television footage on the ship, authorities confirmed that the man went overboard.

Royal Caribbean Cruise Line subsequently issued a statement revealing that the man threw himself overboard. The cruise line cited the closed circuit footage as the source of the finding.

The Coast Guard at 7:50 p.m. local time Wednesday launched multiple response boats as well as a rescue helicopter. The Coast Guard had initially established a 300-yard safety zone perimeter around the ship to keep other nearby ships from leaving the dock while the rescue was ongoing.
