The Caribbean Tourism Organization’s (CTO) annual State of the Tourism Industry Conference (SOTIC) recently welcomed participants from member nations in Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands. The V.I. Department of Tourism, under the leadership of Commissioner Joseph Boschulte, was among the delegates.
This year's conference marked a significant moment for the CTO with the introduction of its new Secretary-General and CEO, Dona Regis-Prosper. The gathering presented an opportunity for both government and private sector tourism leaders to collectively discuss key topics centered on tourism investment and financing in the Caribbean region.
Mr. Boschulte extended his warm wishes, stating, “On behalf of the USVI, I congratulate and welcome Dona Regis-Prosper in her new role. I look forward to collaborating with her and the entire CTO leadership board.”
The five-day event was inaugurated with a series of meetings themed “Invest. Innovate. Inspire – A New Model for Caribbean Tourism Growth.” This setting allowed member Ministers and Commissioners to deep dive into discussions and ideas.
In addition to these high-level meetings, Mr. Boschulte took part in a destination-centric press conference. Here, he offered insights on the latest territory developments including hotel inaugurations, inter-Caribbean flight services, cruises, and major events. The highlight of the presentation revolved around the USVI Department of Tourism’s latest initiatives, particularly its sports and entertainment partnerships, innovative marketing campaign videos, and extensive social media outreach, according to a release from the department.
D.O.T. staff attended expert panels, where industry leaders shed light on pivotal subjects such as Tourism Investment and Financing in the Caribbean and key Drivers for Caribbean Tourism Growth.
Reflecting on the conference, Mr. Boschulte said, “The State of the Industry Conference was an enlightening and significant learning experience for me and the department staff. I firmly believe that the opportunity to connect and share ideas with other tourism leaders from throughout the Caribbean lends itself to collective regional growth that, in turn, benefits our territory.”
Notably, the V.I. Department of Tourism re-affiliated with the Caribbean Tourism Organization early in 2023 and has been an active member, with representatives serving on various panels.
