ST. THOMAS — A man died from injuries sustained during an accident on Friday night when the vehicle he was traveling in collided with another vehicle and flipped on its top. Another individual was transported to the Schneider Regional Medical Center and was treated for injuries.

According to the V.I. Police Department, on Friday at 11:54 p.m. an auto collision occurred on Veterans Drive in the area of Moe’s Fresh Market between a black sedan traveling eastward in the left lane, and a white SUV traveling in the same direction in the right lane.

"At some point, both vehicles collided with each other and the black sedan came" to a stop on its roof, the V.I.P.D. said, adding that the matter is currently under investigation by the department's Traffic Bureau.

The victim was identified by next of kin as 26-year-old Keonae A. Turnbull, the driver of the black sedan. The victim who received treatment at SRMC was also an occupant of the black sedan, according to the V.I.P.D.

On the scene were EMS personnel, along with the V.I. Fire Service and the V.I.P.D.

St. Thomas Rescue was also present to perform an extrication, and the organization issued a release detailing their efforts following the accident.

According to the St. Thomas Rescue release, at 12:04 a.m. Saturday, resources were mobilized to a report of an overturned vehicle on Veterans Drive in the vicinity of Moe's Supermarket. “Our crews responded to assist the Virgin Islands Fire Service in a complex extrication," said the organization's public information officer Chris Watson.

St. Thomas Rescue said a joint operation was conducted and two patients were removed from the overturned vehicle. Quick response, medium and heavy duty rescue vehicles attended the scene.

"One occupant was transported to hospital for further treatment. A second occupant sadly died as a result of this incident," Mr. Watson said.
