The University of the Virgin Islands’ Reichhold Center for the Arts is gearing up to unveil the chilling results of this year’s Youth Moviemaking Workshop, inviting the community to the red-carpet premiere of The Fearkeeper. The film debut is set for Saturday, July 26 at 6 p.m. at the Elridge W. Blake Sports and Fitness Center on the Orville E. Kean Campus on St. Thomas.

This year’s production immerses viewers in a suspenseful story where a seemingly harmless dare turns into a harrowing ordeal. Five students, stranded overnight in a building that once operated as an asylum and now functions as a school, find themselves stalked by a malevolent force known as the Fearkeeper. The creature, which thrives on fear, manifests terrifying illusions as giggles echo through the corridors and shadows grow more threatening. To escape, the students must face their innermost fears and rely on one another to survive.

Behind the lens, director Gabriella J. Munzar leads a young and talented cast that includes E'Leyah Gordon, Kailey LaPlace, Nathaniel Moses, Anna Sophia Munzar, and Bella Lima. Elijah Ready handled Director of Photography duties, while Diego Lima and Delilah Craig contributed to the production team in supporting roles, helping bring the film’s vision to life.

The seven-week Youth Moviemaking Workshop is a yearly initiative by the Reichhold Center designed for students aged 11 to 16. The program walks participants through each stage of the filmmaking process, from screenwriting and directing to editing and production. In the end, students collaborate to produce an original short film, which is showcased during a formal premiere open to the public.

RCA Director Denise Humphrey praised the students' effort and the broader goals of the program. “‘The Fearkeeper’ is a testament to the creativity and resilience of our youth,” she said. “This program is about more than just film—it’s about building confidence, collaboration, and a sense of purpose through storytelling. We’re proud to share their hard work and vision with the community.”

The public is encouraged to attend and support these emerging young filmmakers. Admission to the event is free.

The Youth Moviemaking Workshop is presented by the Reichhold Center for the Arts and receives funding in part from the Virgin Islands Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.
