The powerful and deeply human Virgin Islands film “FALL” premieres digitally tonight, Sunday, October 19 at 7:30 p.m. on Vimeo, extending its reach to audiences across the territory, the diaspora, and beyond.

More than a film, “FALL” serves as the flagship project of the Film Over Gun Violence (FOGV) initiative, a transformative program spearheaded by the Center for Educational Growth, Inc. (CFEG). The initiative empowers young Virgin Islanders through filmmaking, using art and storytelling as positive tools for self-expression and social change.

Produced by Blue Tarp Productions in collaboration with CFEG and CMCArts, “FALL” has received international acclaim, earning six festival nominations and winning Best International Film at the Urban Film Festival and Best Caribbean Film at the IBDFF Film Festival.

“FALL” captures the realities of life in the U.S. Virgin Islands, exploring the difficult choices individuals face within families and communities. The film delves into the pressures that can lead to violence while illuminating the resilience and humanity that endure amid adversity.

According to its producers, the film’s storytelling acts as “a mirror to real life,” sparking essential conversations about how social, economic, and emotional pressures can lead to destructive paths — and how art can inspire healing and transformation.

At the heart of the “FALL” project lies the Film Over Gun Violence (FOGV) program — a hands-on educational and creative platform for USVI youth ages 13 to 28, designed to shift focus from violence to artistry.

The program offers participants:

  • Humanities Education and Civic Research – teaching youth to understand and analyze the root causes and social consequences of gun violence.

  • Film Production Training – guiding them through the complete filmmaking process, including scriptwriting, directing, cinematography, and sound engineering.

“Our mission with FOGV is clear: to ‘change the scene’ by directing youth away from gun violence to the act of filmmaking. Every film we create, starting with ‘FALL,’ is a testament to the power of art to heal, educate, and offer a brighter path forward for our young people,” stated the Center for Educational Growth.

The production of “FALL” brought together a network of local and regional talent, supported by strong community partnerships.

Blue Tarp Productions served as the film’s creative force, dedicated to producing authentic Caribbean stories and promoting local talent both in front of and behind the camera.

CMCArts contributed to the project’s artistic development, continuing its mission to strengthen cultural expression throughout the Virgin Islands.

The CFEG — which also operates a virtual educational program for USVI youth — led the FOGV initiative as part of its mission to provide young people with meaningful educational and developmental opportunities.

The “FALL” cast and crew dedicated months to bringing the story to life, a commitment its producers describe as a labor of love and purpose.
