The V.I. Lottery announced on Friday that a security breach of its information technology infrastructure lead to “multiple failures within its system” that necessitated the postponement of its January 18 drawing.
“The Virgin Islands Lottery regrets to inform the public that all retail and administrative services are suspended until further notice,” read an announcement on Friday afternoon. “For our dealers and customers, this collapse affects the VI Lottery’s ability to generate tickets and conduct sales.”
Internal members of the organization’s IT team, as well as third-party cybersecurity experts are “working nonstop” to address the situation and restore the systems and services that were taken offline by the breach, VI Lottery says.
The entity has promised to provide further updates as more information becomes available.
