Liberty VI on Monday embarked on a significant fiber installation project at Mount Pleasant Estate in St. Croix. The initiative, aimed at enhancing high-speed internet connectivity, is expected to be completed in approximately five weeks, providing advanced fiber optic service to residents in the area.
"As we acquire the necessary permits, we are moving forward with our Fiber to the Home construction projects so more locations in the territory can have access to our fiber fast internet," said Ravindra Maywahlall, general manager of Liberty VI. "We will continue informing VI consumers about the next areas where we will schedule Fiber to the Home construction projects, as additional permits are approved."
The construction work at Mount Pleasant Estate involves the placement of underground conduits and fiber optic cables to deliver Liberty’s Fiber to the Home broadband service. Scheduled to take place on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., the project aims to boost the network's resilience and protect it from potential hazards such as natural disasters and vandalism.
To achieve these goals, the construction will utilize a micro-trenching technique, which creates a narrow 1 ¾-inch cut and uses existing ducts where possible. This method significantly reduces pavement breakage and dust emissions. Additionally, other underground technologies will be employed to minimize the impact on roadways.
While the job is designed to have minimal traffic impact, residents and drivers in the area should anticipate some delays due to lane and partial road closures. The community is advised to exercise caution when traveling on the narrow roadways. Residents within Mount Pleasant Estate are encouraged to park their vehicles on their properties and not on the street to avoid obstructions or potential damage.
Liberty VI said it will provide ongoing updates on its website, https://www.libertyvi.com/news, regarding the project's progress and information on future construction locations. These updates aim to help residents plan their daily commutes and stay informed about the company's efforts to expand high-speed internet access across the territory.
