Paul Gillette By. THE VI CYCLING FEDERATION

ST. CROIX — The VI Cycling Federation will kick off its 2020 season on Monday at 7:00 a.m. with the 10th Annual Paul Gillette Memorial Ride, the federation said Thursday.

Cyclists dedicate their first ride of the season each year to Paul Gillette because he was a positive figure in the cycling community, a long-standing member of the federation and a man of great character, according to the federation.

Mr. Gillette passed away suddenly in 2011. The 13-mile group ride will commence at 7:00 a.m. from the Cheeseburger's in Paradise parking lot in Southgate and will complete a circle of the east end of St. Croix, the federation said. The event is open to cyclists of all abilities; it is not a race. Helmets and shoes must be worn.

According to the federation, a VICF General Assembly Meeting will be held immediately following the group ride and will include elections of three positions on the executive board, a presentation of the schedule of 2020 events and fellowship with complimentary refreshments for those in attendance.
