USVI Stands Out as St. Croix Track Club Takes Home 5 Gold Medals in Puerto Rico

ST. CROIX — The St. Croix Track Club Mustangs on Saturday won five gold medals with four athletes at the Imperial event of the Association of Youth/Junior Athletics (AAJI) in Gurabo, Puerto Rico, the Track Club has announced. The team also took home a silver medal.

The competition hosted over 694 athletes from age 14 and up.

Malique Smith won gold medals in the 300m in 34.31 seconds and the 600m in 1 minute and 19.09 seconds, the Track Club said. Michelle Smith also won gold medals in the 400m hurdles in 66.04 seconds and the 1200m in 3 minutes and 52 seconds. Ariana Edgar won a gold medal in the Discus with 30.72 meters and silver in the Shot Put with 11.95 meters, and Jah Whyte was 9th of 24 athletes in the 2000m and 15th of 31 athletes in the 1200m.

"All of our athletes achieved personal records in almost all of their events, which was remarkable due to the many rain delays and soaked bodies," the Track Club said.
