Staying at home for New Year’s and looking for something to do? Tune into the YES USVI Basketball Classic, three days of live-streamed Division II basketball from Antilles School’s Mark C. Marin Center.
The classic begins with one game on Friday, December 31 at 2:00 p.m. and continues with one game at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 1 and a final game at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 2. The event was moved from in-person to live-stream only to minimize exposure to the Covid-19 virus, according to a release issued Wednesday. All participating teams – Fisk University, Point Park University, and Elizabeth City State University – are fully vaccinated, and will be tested daily as a further precaution.

The Classic will be streamed locally by MDM and is organized by award-winning Rutgers Professor Ernest Ruffin, found of Young Entrepreneurz Solutions, a program whose mission is to teach business and economic development to 6-12 graders nationwide and in the Virgin Islands.
Featured during the event will be a ceremony honoring celebrated V.I. coach Elridge W. Blake, who is also an alumnus of Fisk University.
